Legacy of Independence
AsianBroadcasting Network organized a seminar on the topic “Legacy of Independence1857 to 2008 where Indian and Pakistani scholars gave their speeches on the warof independence 1857.
Amaresh Misra did five years of extensive research and recently published histhird book “War of Civilization 1857″ where he termed the war as worlds firstHolocaust where 1 million people were killed.
Although practically it was a lost war but he termed it as a war of civilizations and he mentions that without 1857, 1947 would be unthinkable.
His attempts is to find common ground in history between the South Asiancountries and look for cooperation. 1857 was a perfect example where the muslimsand hindus fought against the common enemy and he thinks that there is a lotthat South Asia can learn from it.
I would suggest to listen to his talk in Urdu and we can discus this as a topicof discussion in this mailing list.
